Titanic

The RMS Titanic was a British passenger ship operated by the White Star Line, which sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after hitting an iceberg during its first voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew on board, more than 1,500 died, making the sinking probably the deadliest for a single ship at the time. It is the deadliest sinking of a superliner or cruise ship to date. The catastrophe caught the attention of many, provided the basic material for the disaster film genre, and inspired many artistic works.

The RMS Titanic was the largest ship when it entered service and was the second of three Olympic-class sea liners operated by the White Star Line. He was built by Harland and Wolf Shipyard in Belfast. Thomas Andrews, the ship's chief naval architect at the time, died in the disaster.

The Titanic was under Captain Edward Smith, who landed with the ship. The sea liner carried some of the richest people in the world, as well as hundreds of immigrants from Great Britain and Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe, looking for a new life in the United States. The first-class accommodation was designed as a peak of comfort and luxury, with a gymnasium, swimming pool, library, upscale restaurant and gorgeous cabin. A high-powered radiotelegraph transmitter was available to send passengers the "Marknigram" and for the operational use of the ship. The Titanic had advanced safety features, such as waterproof bogies and remotely activated waterproof doors. The ship was equipped with 16 lifeboats, each capable of landing three lifeboats for a total of 48 boats. And yet the Titanic carried only 20 lifeboats, four of which crashed and proved difficult to launch when the ship sank. Together, the 20 lifeboats were capable of carrying 1,178 people - which was only half the number of passengers on board, and only one-third the number of passengers the ship was carrying at full capacity. (This was in line with maritime safety regulations in those days.) In addition, when the ship sank, the lifeboats that were unloaded were almost half full.
